2008 - 2009 Recreational Program

Programs for Tots and Preschoolers

Our tots and preschool program is divided up into four classes. We have the children divided into different classes by age groups because of the physiological and physical developments at each age. However, we present the SAME lesson plan to the 2 year olds that we do to the 4 and 5 year olds, with greater expectation of accuracy from the older age group. Our tots still need the guidance of mom or dad to help them accomplish the skills they will learn in their class. Different themes will be discussed and incorporated throughout the year. The ages corresponding to the classes below are guidelines.

Tumble Tots - This class is for children 18 months to 2 1/2 years. An adult is required to attend class at all times. Students will learn hand-eye coordination, balancing skills and group exercise activities. This class will introduce circuit learning with basic gymnastic skills, as well as song and game activities.
Kinder Kids - Children must be 2 1/2 years to 3 1/2 years of age and potty trained. Children attend this class without a parent. This class promises a playful atmosphere while learning gymnastics skills on every event. Your child will learn and practice social skills such as waiting in line, taking turns, and cooperation while gaining independence.
Kinder Kids Advanced - This class is designed for children 4 - 5 years of age. Students will attend class independently. This class is geared for children not yet enrolled on kindergarten. Students will start learning the skills necessary to transition into the recreational classes. Strength and conditioning drills are taught as well as building on the basic skills already learned. Working with a partner, memory skills, shapes and terminology will also be stressed.

Recreational Program
At SUPERIOR Gymnastics we offer a well rounded program including skill development in tumbling, bars, beam, vaulting techniques and tumble track. We also help develop a child’s strength, flexibility, and all around fitness. Repetition is a key element in skill acquisition. To eliminate boredom, we teach new gymnastic skills in each lesson while reinforcing the skills already learned. Gymnasts in each class will be divided up age appropriately. Gymnasts will be evaluated quarterly for advancement to the next level.

Beginner Girls I one hour class for girls 5 years and older. This is an introduction to the basic skills on all 4 women’s events as well as tumble track. Emphasis is on basic terminology, gym safety, and conditioning

Twice weekly attendance is encouraged but not required.  Making connections between skills is emphasized. Gymnasts are challenged to learn new and more accelerated skills in a recreational-competitive atmosphere.
Boys Introductory one hour class for boys 5 years and older designed to instruct basic skills along with strength and flexibility. Boys will be taught skills on floor, vault, and bars. Emphasis is on basic terminology, gym safety, and conditioning.

In addition to our recreational gymnastics program we offer classes geared toward cheerleading. Students interested in learning the tumbling skills necessary to make a cheer team, we have the class for you. Our tumble classes work to teach your child the skills needed quickly and correctly. We focus on proper technique to help retain the skill.

Tumble 11 hour class for students 5 years and older designed to teach basic tumbling skills up to round off, front and back walkovers, and back handspring drills. Students will be divided up according to age/ability level. Flexibility will also be introduced.
